Lactic Acid

It is a water soluble alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from a variety of sources. A popular ingredient used in exfoliating cleansers, creams and peels, which works by gently exfoliating the material that holds onto old skin cells, to reveal healthier-looking skin. Lactic acid has skin-conditioning benefits and has the ability to enhance hydration, while gently exfoliating the skin, and improving skin tone and texture, as well as reducing the appearance of dark spots. This ingredient is often found in products that contain a mixture of AHAs including glycolic and maleic acid. While it is important to wear sunscreen daily, it is even more important to wear it when using AHAs, as the skin will tend to be a slightly sensitive and as a means to prevent sun damage.
